Questions and answers
What to put on a poster, where to hang it, how to stay safe, and what we do with your photo.
Making the poster
Is it really free?
Yes. The poster and the flyer are free forever, with no watermark and no signup. You can make as many as you need, in color or black and white, on Letter or A4. The only paid extra is the clean HD version of the social images (the Neighbor Alert Pack).
Do I need to sign up?
No. Add a photo, fill in four lines and download. We only ask for an email if you choose to buy the HD social images or want 3 extra free preview images.
What should I put on a lost pet poster?
A clear photo of the face, LOST plus the species in big letters, the name, one to three things that stand out (a collar, a marking), where and when they were last seen, and your phone number. That is it. Every extra sentence makes the poster harder to read from a car.
Can I update my poster when something changes?
Yes, for free. Your draft stays on your phone. Come back and add a STILL MISSING, REWARD, SIGHTING or FOUND, THANK YOU! banner, then print again.
Printing and hanging
What size should I print?
Letter in the US and Canada, A4 in the UK, Australia and most other places. We pick the right one for your country and you can switch it. Print at 100% ("Actual size") so nothing gets cut off.
Can I print it in black and white?
Yes. There is a black and white mode made for home printers. It uses solid black instead of red so the phone number stays sharp and dark even on a cheap printer.
Where should I hang lost pet posters?
At busy intersections near where your pet was last seen, at eye level for drivers. Then vets, shelters, pet stores, groomers, dog parks, gas stations and community boards. Ask before you post on private property.
Can I put flyers in mailboxes?
Not in the US. Only mail with postage can go in a mailbox under USPS rules. Hand flyers to people, leave them at the door, or ask your mail carrier if they would take one to look out for your pet.
Safety and scams
Should I include a reward? How much?
The word REWARD on its own is enough to make people stop and look. Leaving out the amount keeps you from attracting scammers who call only for money. You can always talk about the amount with someone who really has your pet.
Should I put my address on the poster?
No. Use the nearest cross streets, like "Elm St & 5th Ave". Your phone number is enough for people to reach you, and it keeps strangers from showing up at your door.
How do I spot a lost pet reward scam?
Never send money before you see your pet. Ask the caller for a photo of your pet with something from today, and ask them to describe a detail you kept off the poster. Meet in a public place and bring someone with you.
Found a pet
I found a dog. What do I do first?
Take them to any vet or shelter to scan for a microchip (it is free). Report the dog to your local shelter or animal control, which is required in many areas. Then make a found flyer: it prints "Describe them to claim" and leaves out the name so only the real owner can claim them.
Paid extras
What is the Neighbor Alert Pack?
Three images made from your poster details, sized for Facebook groups and Nextdoor (square), the Facebook feed (tall) and Stories or WhatsApp status. It comes with post text you can copy. You can see a free watermarked preview once a day; the clean HD pack is a one-time purchase.
Privacy
Do you change my pet's photo?
Never. We only crop it the way you choose. No filters, no "enhancing", no generated images. The photo you pick is the photo your neighbors see.
What happens to my photo?
We use it to make your files. It is stored by our image-processing provider so we can make and re-send your images, and it is never sold or shared for advertising. Ask us and we delete it. See the privacy policy for details.
